Winter Carpet Bowls

Winter Carpet Bowls for 2021 starts on Wednesday 7 April. If you would like to play, speak with Noel Spotswood or Shane Young at Beltana Bowls Club.

Winter Carpet Bowls is held on a Wednesday nights from early April until late July or early August culminating in southern and state finals. The Wednesday night competition is a men’s competition.

Winter Carpet Bowls is a rostered pennant competition, much the same as Saturday pennant in the summer, but with two rinks of four players. It’s the perfect opportunity to keep playing through winter but in a warm environment. It’s also a great opportunity to learn a new game with new strategies.

As with outdoor bowls, players and teams are required to be registered with affiliation to regional, state and national bodies. Find out more about becoming a club member so you can join in the fun.

It is a very reasonable $5 fee from each player on the night of each game.

Beltana currently has one team known as the Two Blues but a couple of years ago our other team the Hawks won the pennant and performed very well in state finals after defeating the other southern competition winners.

The club is always looking for more players and barefooters are more than welcome to come along and maybe help to resurrect the Hawks.

Any potential players would be representing Beltana not just entering as an independent side and we would try to select people to play with those that they know and are compatible with. All our players are friendly and sociable so you will be sure to have a great time.

The concept of carpet bowls is similar to the outdoor game with penalties incurred for taking the kitty off the mat so it is very good for anyone looking to hone their draw game or perfect and appreciate weight control.

There is a ladies Thursday afternoon game and a men’s Wednesday afternoon game. Beltana does not currently have teams in these games but if you are keen and we can get together a team, we can change that.
