2021-22 Club Person of the Year

CONGRATULATIONS to John Newton who won Club Person of the Year for 2021-2022.

John is very well deserving of the win and has certainly been a valuable asset to the club for several years but particularly over this last year. He has been a selector (always a tough job) and a member of the cleaning committee so has helped keep the club sparkling clean. He was an enormous help during gala week in March 2022, and stepped in where ever help was needed. He was a key member in running gala week. He also attends and helps out with Barefoot Bowls and welcomes new people to the club and helps them get started with their barefoot bowls fun.

He has also taken out a very high accolade in his life prior to bowls. He was the National Insurance Brokers Association Chairman and took out the award one year, for National Insurance Broker of the Year. An award no one in Tasmania had ever won.

John has been a member of the club for 12 years and been playing pennant for the last three years. John got into bowls through a work colleague.

‘I was a couch potato before this so this is the best thing I’ve ever done,’ he said.

‘I like to be involved in anything I get in to. I don’t like the limelight but I like to do my part.’

John said he’s met a lot of good people in Beltana.

‘Everyone should get behind the club a lot more’.

Well done John. Well deserved.
