Seth Harper takes out Junior Boys Singles State Championships

Beltana’s seventeen-year-old Seth Harper from Lutana recently won the January Gala Week State Championships. He played at his home club which was the perfect place to draw a crowd of his club supporters. He played his way through four games before reaching the grand final against Claremont’s Adam Taylor, who also played a fantastic game.

Seth said he enjoyed the experience, particularly as this was his first state championships.

“I really enjoyed the matches. Being able to play against people roughly my age was a great new experience,” he said.

“Overall the games were pretty intense. I definitely couldn’t slack off or I would have been beaten many times.

“The grand final was definitely nerve wracking. After he (Adam Taylor) came back from 12 down I was getting quite worried.”

Seth plays for about seven hours a week which includes Saturday pennant and practice on a Thursday and has been playing for about two years.

“What I enjoy most is the challenge of trying to be consistent and constantly having to try and break barriers to become even better than I am now.”

Our newest champion lists one of his goals as playing for a win in Australian open matches. Watch this space for this young up and coming star.
